I was experimenting
I tried these out on a a very long walk - Glyndwr's Way in Mid Wales, after reading a very experienced guy say that this was best as a pound on your feet is like 5 on your back (we were camping out, so carrying all our stuff). I did get less tired, it was true, but suffered with blisters - which I NEVER get with leather walking boots. I tried the next size up for the South Downs Way and it was not quite as bad, but I did get some blisters and 2 black toe nails. For the Wye Valley Walk, I reverted to walking boots! That said, they are great for day walks - but are NOT waterproof. (I overcame the lack of waterproofness by wearing waterproof socks when I needed to (which are very comfortable, by the way....
